Teaching Tips

Data notebooks, grading papers, running copies, lesson planning, meetings, and extra duties!  These are all things that can make us feel like we are spread as thin as trying to spread of teaspoon of tomato sauce across a large pizza.  Even though too much to do can make us feel like we can never slow down, it is important to remember that our students are children.  They are people, and they want to be cared for.  Greeting your students as they walk into your class will create a positive climate in your classroom, and it will give you a stronger relationship with the students. I know many of us teach over 100 students, so this can be a tough accomplishment. Ask students about their interests, and be a good listener to them. Try to find a way to offer them a compliment or just ask them how their weekend was. A little kindness goes a long way. Students will be more motivated in your class if they believe that you really care. I am not saying to not follow through when students break a rule. I do think that many behavior problems can be prevented if you form a positive relationship with the students. Enjoy your time with them and let them know you are advocating for them.  They will love you right back!   Have a great week!
